Treatment of cellars, subfloor voids and the gaps under skirtings where they shelter during the day.
Prey reduction
Centipedes are predators and follow their food. Reducing the silverfish, woodlice and small insects they hunt removes the reason they are there.
Signs You Have a Problem
- Fast-moving centipedes indoors. Usually seen at night on bathroom or cellar floors, moving quickly for cover when disturbed.
- Millipedes in large numbers. Millipedes migrate in numbers after heavy rain, often appearing along a single wall or threshold.
- Damp cellars or subfloor voids. A persistent musty smell and visible damp in a cellar or underfloor space is the usual habitat.
- Other damp-loving insects present. Woodlice, silverfish and springtails alongside centipedes confirm the underlying problem is moisture rather than the centipedes themselves.

Common Questions
Are centipedes dangerous?
UK species are harmless to people. The largest native centipedes can deliver a mild nip if handled, comparable to a nettle sting, but they carry no disease and do not damage property.
Why do they keep coming back?
Because the damp is still there. Treatment clears the current population, but as long as the conditions and their prey remain, new ones will move in.
What is the difference between a centipede and a millipede?
Centipedes have one pair of legs per body segment, move quickly and hunt other insects. Millipedes have two pairs per segment, move slowly, eat decaying plant matter, and curl up when disturbed.
