Signs You Have a Problem
- Bites concentrated at dawn and dusk. Most UK species feed around dawn and dusk, so biting that clusters at those times points to mosquitoes rather than fleas or bed bugs.
- High-pitched whine at night. The audible wingbeat near the ear while trying to sleep is distinctive.
- Larvae in standing water. Small comma-shaped larvae wriggling just under the surface of a water butt, gully or pond, diving when disturbed.
- Problem worsens after wet weather. A noticeable increase a week or two after heavy rain indicates fresh standing water is being colonised.
